Recently Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia in Chernigiv Olena Vyshnyakova visited Latvian Ogre city. For few years already ogre is Chernigiv brethren city, that’s why both the city hall and community have close relations with Ukrainians. During her visit Mrs. Vyshnyakova met city mayor Mr. Arthur Margulis, with whom she discussed possible options of future bilateral cooperation between Chernigiv and Ogre. Besides, it was agreed with Latvian colleagues, regarding cooperation in humanitarian and cultural spheres, and bilateral exchange between schools and universities. From his side, Mr. Margulis assured that local authorities and citizen in full scale support friendly relations with Ukraine.

“As usual I highlight on the fact, that Ukraine has to learn from the experience of European integration projects of countries, that went through this before. That’s why close cooperation with Latvia in the issues of reforming of local bodies, cultural sphere, modernization of high school and others can help Ukraine to quickly adapt its legislation and governmental systems to new order. Moreover, Latvian are actively supporting Ukrainians and share their experience”, - stated Honorary Consul.

Ogre is for a few years the brethren city for Ukrainian Chernigiv: during year 2015 Ogre community transferred more than 10 tons of humanitarian cargo those who suffered from the military actions in Eastern Ukraine. Moreover, last autumn Ogre received a group of children, that lost their parents during ATO. 15 Ukrainian children during their summer brake had rest in Latvia, met new friends, learned their culture and traditions. Also there was a celebration in Ogre where humanitarian aid was collected for Ukrainian families.

Olena Vyshnyakova gave her gratitude to Latvians for their support, and expressed her hopes for cooperation between Chernigiv and Ogre to be successful even in the next year.
