Latvian city Ogre :"Ukraine, we support you!"

For several years Latvian city Ogre is a sister city for Ukrainian city Chernihiv. Latvian community deeply sympathizes with Ukraine and demonstrates all-round support to Ukrainians. Once joined to the Soviet Union by force, the Latvians know what it means to fight for their own independence.

Recently Ogre’s community held a big concert under a slogan "Ukraine, we support you!", 57 artists from all over Latvia took part in it. Ogre’s mayor Arthur Manhulis with his family performed Ukrainian song.

It’s obvious that the sister city Ogre could not forget to congratulate Chernihiv on the City Day. The official delegation headed by the Deputy Chairman of Humanitarian Affairs Council in Ogre Regional Duma, Inet Tamani, arrived in Chernihiv for the celebration. Ms. Tamani brought to Chernihiv the film about the event "Ukraine, we support you!" and presented it to the mayor Oleksandr Sokolov. She informed that the humanitarian aid from the Ogre citizens’ would be sent to Chernihiv for children from families of those killed in the ATO.

I.Tamani admitted that Ogre citizens support Ukraine. "Ogre citizens prepared different things and toys for children and in a month they will be sent to Chernihiv," she said.

For the second time the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Chernihiv Olena Vyshniakova will help with humanitarian aid transfer and distribution.

In addition, the Deputy Chairman of Humanitarian Affairs Council in Ogre Regional Duma informed that Ogre community collected more than 5 thousand euro within charity events and prepared a project for European foundations that gave another 20 thousand euro. All these funds will be spent for organizing a camp in Latvia for Chernihiv children whose parents were killed during the antiterrorist operation in the east. The camp is planned to be organized for the autumn holidays.

"You should know that it is sincere from all our hearts", Ms. Tamani persuaded.

Under the patronage of the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Chernihiv several groups of children and a group of Ukrainian psychologists have already visited the Latvian health and rehabilitation resorts. We hope that with the assistance of Ogre community and thanks to efforts of Ms. Vyshniakova such health-improving holidays in Latvia will become a good tradition for young citizens of Chernihiv region.
